My name is Rae Mitten and I am engaging in a research project for my Ph.D. at the University of Saskatchewan. The project involves the study of interdisciplinary, community-based programming for individuals with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. As part of this project, individual interviews with families, caregivers, service providers, and affected individuals are planned in order to learn from people who have first hand experience with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders what works best with them. There is a dearth of research on programming or treatment for fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, and together we could begin to close that gap.
If you would like to volunteer to be a part of this project, please call Rae Mitten, Ph.D. Student, at (306)-966-6200, Room 154, Native Law Centre, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK S7N 5B8, e-mail
. My advisor is Dr. Linda Wason-Ellam from Curriculum Studies at University Saskatchewan, and I have a committee composed of professors from psychology, education, law, and medicine. The community partner for the research is the Saskatchewan Fetal Alcohol Support Network. Ethical protocols approved by the University Behavioral Ethics Review Board will be followed in order to protect participant's confidentiality, privacy, and informed consent, and attempts will be made to involve the participants and community partner in collaborative decision-making regarding the research process and outcomes.
The National Aboriginal Health Organization, Métis Centre and the Indigenous Peoples Health Research Centre have contributed funding to this project.
